This is actually a traditional rendition of Krakonos, a Czech folklore figure. Krakonos is the Father of the Woods and has mystical god-like powers. The Krkonose mountains are some of the largest in the Czech Republic and the area is filled with tales of a mysterious man who cares for the nature of the mountains. This marionette has a classic skeleton of wood. His hands and face are cast from a unique plaster like compound then beautifully hand-painted. Notice the accessories and attention to detail, colorful pipe, leaves in his hair and beard, patchwork closing and carved wooden shoes.
