Hand Puppets
The best range of hand puppets!
Put simply ... a hand puppet is operated by your entire hand giving you control of the puppet’s movement. Common hand puppets can resemble plush toys, like teddy bears, but they include a hole for your hand and have less stuffing.
Hand puppets are ideal for storytelling and roleplay fun with children, both at home and in therapy. Our puppets are commonly used by nurses, psychologists, teachers, and in aged care. Puppets have a way of breaking down barriers, so it's not uncommon for people to feel disarmed by a puppet and willing to communicate.
Remember all the puppets we grew up with? Ozie Ostrich, Fraggle Rock, Tucker Bag, Agro, Sesame Street, ALF, Mr Squiggle, the Muppets, and so many more. Yes, Punch & Judy were hand puppets too, though a bit 'non-pc' now.
What is the best hand puppet?
Consider these factors before you buy a hand puppet online in Australia.
Character: Hand puppets come in a range of characters including people, animals, fantasy creatures, and objects. Choose a hand puppet that suits the story you’re wanting to tell. If you’re unsure, choose a character that is flexible, customizable, or most expressive in design and features.
Mouth or no-mouth: If you possibly can … choose a hand puppet with an operable mouth. While not essential, being able to open and close the mouth drastically improves the impact when telling stories etc.
Budget: Our hand puppets come in a range of prices between $20 and $200. Larger puppets with greater detail are more expensive, but don’t worry … some of our less expensive puppets are amongst our best.
Size: Choose a small hand puppet for a small hand, and a large puppet for large hands. When using a puppet with small groups of people up close, a small hand puppet is fine, but if your audience is at a distance, you’ll need a larger puppet.
