Rocking Horses

Rock'n ... but not Roll'n!

While the styles have changed over the years, the appeal of rocking horses to children hasn't diminished. The availability of rocking horses has changed in the past 20 years, and the arisan, hand-crafted horses have become less easliy sourced. But so too has the price evolved, and rocking horses can now be bought for far less investment.

We keep a small collection of rocking horses in our village store, some visible here which can be posted to our customers who're unable to visit us. We focus on modular designs that can accomodate tiny toddlers, then grow to suit kids as they can walk and climb on themselves.

Rocking horses have a long history, dating back centuries to ancient times when wheeled toys rocked back and forth. The familiar wooden rocking horse we know today emerged in 17th-century Europe. These finely crafted horses, often with intricate carvings, became beloved playthings for aristocratic children in the 18th and 19th centuries. With the Industrial Revolution, manufacturing techniques improved, making rocking horses more accessible to the general public. They evolved to meet safety standards and started incorporating diverse materials.
