Genuine kokeshi dolls originate in Japan, and this little doll is just beautiful. Made approximately in the 1980's, she has been loved for decades, and can now be yours.

Most of our range are what's referred to as Creative Kokeshi, which distinguishes them from from Traditional Kokeshi. The traditional type can be identified by their long, tall bodies, traditional costume, floral and geometric patterns, and hairstyles reflecting the 1800's. They are still made today, but their design is regulated and limited. Creative Kokeshi began in 1946 at the conclusion of WWII, and gave artisans more freedom to explore new shapes, materials and designs.
The popularity of collecting of vintage Kokeshi has come an gone over recent decades, and they are also still being made in various regions of Japan, particularly the springs district. They are bought as ornament, as tourist souvenirs, and also as high-profile pieces of art.
